Palm Springs High Students Celebrate Global Cultures at “Give Thanks to the World” Event

For students at Palm Springs High School, an hour on campus became a journey around the world. Through an immersive multicultural event called “Give Thanks to the World,” students explored dozens of global cultures—no passport required.

Teachers say the project was designed to help students learn more about their own heritage as well as the backgrounds of their classmates. Most importantly, it encouraged them to be proud of where they come from. Over the course of two weeks, students researched different countries, religions, foods, languages, and traditions. Their findings were showcased on vibrant 36-by-48–inch display boards, filling the room with color, information, and stories from across the globe.

Uniting the student body was the theme of the day. Many participants said the project showed them how connected the world truly is.
“We all bring different aspects of the world,” one student explained. “A lot of the traditions and cultures here came from our families or were brought by immigrants. Everybody just coming together, sharing food and ideas—it was amazing.”
Another student highlighted the performances. “I loved the dances, especially from Peru. All the unique traditions helped us get to know each other better.”

Teachers echoed that sentiment, emphasizing that the project goes beyond academics. It’s about helping young people develop confidence in their identities.
“It’s very important for them to understand who they are,” one staff member said. “When they learn about their culture, their traditions, their language, they embrace it—and they appreciate others even more. It’s about celebrating diversity.”

Educators say the event was a major success and an important lesson for students as they grow into thoughtful, culturally aware adults. And at Palm Springs High School, it’s one celebration that’s sure to leave a lasting impression.
