Cathedral City Swears In New Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem
Cathedral City installed new leadership on Wednesday as Councilmember Raymond Gregory was sworn in as mayor and Councilmember Ernesto Gutierrez assumed the role of mayor pro tem.
Gregory, who represents District 5, was first elected to the council in November 2018. He spent 27 years with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department before retiring in 2017, rising to the rank of Assistant Sheriff. His assignments included commanding the Sheriff's Indio Station and serving as chief of police for Coachella and La Quinta.
Gutierrez, the District 4 representative, was also elected in 2018. A longtime Coachella Valley resident, he has worked as a real estate broker and builder for over 30 years and has owned Tortilla's Restaurant in Cathedral City since 1996.
The council recognized outgoing Mayor Nancy Ross, who will continue serving as the District 2 representative. Ross was first elected to the council in November 2020 and previously served on the city's Public Arts Commission and various task forces addressing cannabis regulation and homelessness.
