Palm Springs Police Say Fatal Pedestrian Crash Was Not a Hit-and-Run
Palm Springs Police have provided new details in a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred early Sunday morning, confirming the incident was not a hit-and-run as initially believed.
Officers were called to Highway 111 between Tipton Road and Snow Creek Road just before Sunday morning after a deceased person was discovered along the roadway. Following further investigation, police determined the collision occurred around 3:20 a.m.
According to authorities, the driver of a white Toyota truck struck what they initially believed to be an object in the road. The vehicle’s OnStar system automatically contacted emergency services, alerting first responders to the crash. The driver sustained injuries, cooperated fully with investigators, and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Police say the driver was not impaired and did not leave the scene. The roadway was closed for several hours during the investigation but has since reopened.
The identity of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash remains ongoing.
