Trump Delays Tariff Increases on Furniture, Cabinets Until 2026
President Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday, postponing tariff increases on upholstered furniture, kitchen cabinets, and bathroom vanities for a full year. The order came just hours before the higher rates were set to take effect.
Cabinet tariffs had been scheduled to jump to 50 percent, while upholstered furniture was set to hit 30 percent. Both categories have been at 25 percent since September. Most imported furniture comes from China and Vietnam.
The White House didn't specify the reason for the delay but indicated negotiations with trading partners are ongoing. Concerns about the housing market and the potential for tariffs to be passed along to consumers had weighed on home-furnishing stocks throughout 2025.
