North Indian Canyon Drive Reopens, Ending Week of New Year's Flood Closures

A week after New Year's Day flooding forced multiple road closures in Palm Springs, the final holdout is back open. City officials announced Thursday that North Indian Canyon Drive at the wash has reopened to traffic.
The closure was one of several that went into effect after heavy rainfall caused wash areas to overflow between Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs on January 1st. At its peak, the flooding shut down North Gene Autry Trail, Vista Chino, Araby Drive, and North Indian Canyon Drive—all key routes connecting the two cities.
Most of those roads reopened within days. North Gene Autry Trail and Vista Chino were clear by the following weekend. North Indian Canyon Drive took longer, remaining barricaded through midweek before finally getting the all-clear.
With all wash crossings now passable, drivers no longer need to seek alternate routes between Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs.
