Palm Springs Volunteers Roll Up Their Sleeves for Annual Community Cleanup

Earlier today, the Palm Springs Sustainability Department hosted its annual community cleanup, bringing together dozens of volunteers dedicated to making the city a cleaner and more beautiful place. The event took place just outside the James O. Jesse Desert Highland Unity Center, where residents, city staff, and regional partners worked side by side.

Palm Springs Parks and Recreation staff partnered with Ben & Jerry’s for the cleanup, demonstrating that maintaining a clean city sometimes requires getting a little dirty. Volunteers collected litter and debris while sharing a common goal of protecting the local environment.

Among those participating were volunteers from outside the region, including individuals visiting from Seattle, who said giving back to the community was an important part of their time in Palm Springs. Volunteers noted that community involvement can inspire others and help create lasting positive change throughout the city.

Palm Springs Mayor Naomi Soto was also in attendance, emphasizing the importance of environmental stewardship in the Coachella Valley. She highlighted the responsibility residents and visitors share in preserving the land for future generations.

“This land is something we want to leave to our children and grandchildren in a better state,” Soto said. “I’m grateful that sustainability is a priority for both the city and those who visit.”

Volunteers echoed the mayor’s message, saying that keeping Palm Springs clean doesn’t have to be limited to organized events. Simple actions, such as picking up trash when you see it, can make a meaningful difference every day.

Organizers hope the cleanup serves as a reminder that small efforts add up and that community pride plays a key role in maintaining Palm Springs’ beauty. Residents interested in future cleanup events are encouraged to bring gloves and bags and participate in upcoming community cleanup days.
