Palm Springs Police Arrest Suspect in CV Link Trail Stabbing Investigation

Palm Springs police have announced an arrest in connection with a stabbing that occurred along the CV Link trail late last year.

According to the Palm Springs Police Department, officers responded on December 31, 2025, to a reported stabbing along the CV Link trail between Golf Club Drive and Cathedral Canyon Drive. The incident was reported at approximately 2:40 p.m., though the victim told officers the assault happened earlier that day, around 11:30 a.m.

Investigators say the victim, an adult man who was out walking on the trail, reported making eye contact with another man as they passed each other. About 15 minutes later, as the victim headed back toward his home, he noticed the same individual still in the area. Police say the suspect then put on a ski mask, yelled profanities, and attacked the victim, knocking him to the ground.

The victim fought back, and the suspect fled on foot. After the altercation, the victim realized he had been stabbed. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and later released.

Detectives later identified the suspect as Jacob Masters, 53, of Palm Springs. Officers continued working to locate him and, on Sunday, January 11, 2026, found Masters in the 5600 block of East Ramon Road. Police say Masters attempted to flee when officers tried to detain him but was eventually taken into custody near the CV Link trail by the Cimarron Golf Course.

Masters was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility and has been charged with attempted murder and resisting an officer.

Police say the stabbing appears to have been an unprovoked attack. Investigators report the suspect did not demand property, and the motive remains under investigation.
