International Conservation Summit Returns to Palm Desert This Weekend

The 5th Annual International Desert Conservation Summit kicks off Friday at The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens in Palm Desert, bringing together scientists and conservationists from around the world for three days of presentations, panels, and outdoor experiences.

The summit runs January 16–18 and features keynote speaker Paul Rosolie, a conservationist, author, and filmmaker known for his work protecting the Amazon rainforest. Speakers also include wildlife experts from Mongolia, Kenya, Mexico, and California working on projects ranging from cheetah protection to rhino conservation to snake education.

This year's programming focuses on large mammal reintroduction, California wildlife conservation, and environmental education. The Living Desert will award more than $180,000 to ten conservation leaders working to protect threatened species and ecosystems worldwide.

"Desert ecosystems play a critical role in global biodiversity, yet they are often overlooked," said Allen Monroe, president and CEO of The Living Desert. "This summit elevates the voices of those doing the work on the ground and connects the public to solutions that create lasting impact."

The event opens Friday evening with a reception and dinner honoring this year's award recipients. Saturday features a full day of panels and presentations, an awards luncheon, and Rosolie's keynote address. Sunday includes zoo admission, guided hikes, botanical garden tours, and behind-the-scenes animal experiences.

The summit is designed for guests 16 and older. Tickets and information are available at livingdesert.org.
