Palm Springs City Council to Consider Appeal, Funding for Affordable Housing Projects Tonight

The Palm Springs City Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting tonight, with affordable housing expected to be a central topic of discussion.

Among the key agenda items is a public hearing related to an 82-unit affordable housing complex proposed off West San Rafael Drive. Neighbors are appealing the Palm Springs Planning Commission decision to approve the project. City staff, however, is recommending that the City Council deny the appeal and allow the development to move forward as approved.

In addition to the appeal, council members will also consider financial assistance and a loan commitment for the 82-unit project, along with another proposed 110-unit affordable housing complex planned for McCarthy Road.

If both projects receive approval, the combined public investment in affordable housing would total nearly $6 million. City officials say the funding would help support the development of much-needed housing options for lower-income residents in Palm Springs.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. tonight at Palm Springs City Hall.
