Pursuit Ends in Crash on Frank Sinatra Drive, Two Hospitalized

First Responders Close Down Section of Frank Sinatra For An “Active Crime Scene.”

Update 10:30 AM: With incident information provided by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, as well as road closure details from Palm Desert City Officials.


A suspect pursuit in Palm Desert ended in a crash Wednesday morning, leaving two people hospitalized and Frank Sinatra Drive shut down between Portola and Monterey Avenue.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, deputies attempted a traffic stop near Monterey Avenue and Frank Sinatra Drive around 8:31 a.m. The driver refused to stop turning into a chase headed eastbound. It ended near Frank Sinatra Drive and Drexell Drive when the suspect's vehicle struck a pedestrian working in the center median. One of the pursuing sheriff’s deputies also crashed into an uninvolved driver.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident. Both the on-foot pedestrian and motor deputy were transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing. Drivers should use Country Club Drive or Gerald Ford Drive to avoid the area until further notice.
