Local Families Receive Refurbished Vehicles Through National Auto Body Council Event in Palm Desert

For three residents in the Palm Springs area, a new set of car keys now represents much more than transportation. It marks a step toward stability, independence, and a fresh start.

The families received refurbished vehicles during a presentation held at Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert as part of the National Auto Body Council’s Palm Springs Changing and Saving Lives Fundraiser. The nonprofit foundation works with the collision repair industry to support veterans, military members, first responders, and families facing difficult circumstances.

Each recipient was nominated by a local organization. Among them was Maria Flores, who was nominated by Variety Children’s Charity of the Desert. Flores shared the challenges she faced before receiving the vehicle, recalling long bus rides while caring for her child in difficult weather conditions.

With the refurbished car, Flores says daily life will become far more manageable, easing the stress of transportation and allowing her family to focus on moving forward.

The vehicles are donated, repaired, and restored through partnerships with auto body shops and industry supporters. Organizers say the program is designed to restore dignity and independence while strengthening local communities.

According to the National Auto Body Council, the organization has donated more than 3,750 vehicles nationwide through its Recycled Rides program. The total value of those vehicles is estimated at $67 million.
