Palm Springs International Airport Sets Passenger Record Despite Fewer Flights

Palm Springs International Airport marked a record-setting year, welcoming more than 3 million passengers and surpassing previous travel benchmarks.

Airport officials say passenger traffic increased by 2.4 percent compared to the prior year, driven largely by strong demand for domestic travel. The surge helped PSP set five all-time monthly passenger records throughout the year.

March stood out as the busiest month in the airport’s history, with nearly half a million travelers passing through the terminals. Officials credit seasonal travel demand and expanded service to popular destinations for the spike.

Despite serving more passengers overall, the airport actually handled fewer flights. Airlines continue to shift toward larger, quieter, and more fuel-efficient aircraft, allowing them to transport more travelers with fewer departures and arrivals.

Airport leaders say the trend reflects broader changes in the airline industry, balancing passenger growth with sustainability and operational efficiency. They note the move toward newer aircraft has also helped reduce noise and environmental impacts for the surrounding community.

With travel demand remaining strong, Palm Springs International Airport expects continued momentum while working to maintain smooth operations and a positive passenger experience.
