Road Work Across the Valley: What to Know This Week
Several road projects are underway across the Coachella Valley this week, with construction affecting routes in Palm Desert, Indio, Palm Springs and La Quinta.
In Palm Desert, the Gerald Ford Drive Improvement Project continues with repaving and median installation to make way for new fire station construction. Drivers heading east should detour via Cook Street to Frank Sinatra Drive. Westbound traffic can get through, but should slow down for heavy equipment and changing traffic patterns.
Also in Palm Desert, the new traffic signal at Cook Street and Marketplace opened a couple of weeks ago but hasn't been synchronized with surrounding signals yet. Expect to get stopped there even if you're timing the lights along the corridor.
In Indio, crews are paving Monroe Street between avenues 48 and 52, working from the outside lanes inward. The project is expected to continue for a couple more weeks. Jackson, Madison, or Jefferson streets can serve as alternates.
Palm Springs' South Palm Canyon Bridge project shifts to nighttime work, this week with road closures expected between 6 pm and 4 am the following morning, Tuesday through Friday. Use Baristo Road as a detour if you're headed through the area for dinner or evening plans.
