James Dockery Welcomed as New Indio Football Coach During Prep Rally

The Rajahs of Indio High School officially ushered in a new era for their football program on Wednesday, hosting a special press conference and pep rally to welcome new head coach James Dockery.

Dockery arrives at Indio after spending the past nine seasons as the head coach at Xavier Prep, where he built a reputation for a defense-first approach and a strong emphasis on discipline and fundamentals. That same philosophy, paired with a focus on developing well-rounded student-athletes, is what Dockery believes will help turn the Rajahs program around.

At the center of his vision is a framework built on attitude, preparation, effort, and accountability. Dockery emphasized that success on the field starts in the classroom, with eligibility, focus, and commitment playing key roles in preparing players both mentally and physically for the demands of the game. He also highlighted the importance of relentless effort in what he described as a physical, high-intensity sport. While Dockery’s teams have traditionally been known for their defensive identity, he made it clear that balance will be a priority moving forward. His goal is to develop an offense that complements the defense, creating a complete and fundamentally sound football team that plays with consistent effort on every snap.

Dockery also shared his desire to significantly increase participation in the football program. The Rajahs fielded a limited roster last season, and building numbers will be a major focus as the team prepares for the upcoming year.
