California Gubernatorial Candidates, LA Mayoral Candiates Return to Stage for NBC4 Los Angeles Debate
Following last night’s gubernatorial debate on CNN, candidates running to become California’s next governor and mayor of Los Angeles will return to the podium tonight for another debate hosted by NBC4 Los Angeles.
The evening begins at 5 p.m. with the race for mayor of Los Angeles. Incumbent Karen Bass will face two challengers in a debate focused on the city’s future leadership, Councilmember Nithya Raman and reality TV star Spencer Pratt.
At 7 p.m., candidates in the gubernatorial race to succeed Gavin Newsom will take the stage at the Skirball Cultural Center.
Later today on NBC Palm Springs, Alondra Campos will report on calls from community coalitions and organizations in Riverside County and the Imperial Valley urging gubernatorial candidates to visit the region. Organizers say efforts to hold a local debate have received limited response from the campaigns.
NBC Palm Springs' Decision 2026 coverage begins airing Monday, May 11, with candidate profiles and one-on-one interviews focused on races affecting the Coachella Valley and surrounding communities.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
