Firefighters Battle Large Pallet Yard Fire in Desert Hot Springs
Firefighters are battling a massive blaze at a Desert Hot Springs pallet yard after receiving multiple emergency calls just before 2 p.m. Monday. The fire erupted near the intersection of Ben Mar and Dillon Road, sending thick plumes of black smoke into the sky.
According to CAL FIRE, the first arriving crews encountered a large fire consuming approximately ¼ to ½ acre of pallets. Additional resources were immediately requested to contain the flames. By 3:30 p.m., the fire had expanded to about an acre, and officials estimated an extended commitment time for all responding units.
The Palm Springs and Cathedral City fire departments are assisting CAL FIRE in the effort to bring the fire under control. Meanwhile, the Desert Hot Springs Police Department has closed Dillon Road between Little Morongo Road and Palm Drive. Authorities urge motorists to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
