 Tomorrow's 4th of July celebration at the Palm Springs Air Museum will be much more than just fireworks We're proud to celebrate America's 250th anniversary brought to you by your Southern California Ford dealers The museum's annual Allies in Liberty celebration will honor America's 250th birthday and the aircraft that helped shape its history Our Alondra Campos joins us live from the Palm Springs Air Museum with a preview of the big event Hey Alondra Hey Kai if you're looking for a place to celebrate the 4th of July while stepping into the United States history Well this is it tomorrow The Palm Springs Air Museum will host its allies in the Liberty celebration and events surrounded by vintage aircraft family activities food and a special flyover that will take to the skies above the Coachella Valley Now today I got an up close look to some of the aircraft and the history behind it that will be leading the big celebration It's a 4th of July celebration where history does not just sit inside a museum it takes flight The Palm Springs Air Museum's annual Allies in Liberty Celebration invite families to spend the 4th of July surrounded by vintage aircraft live music and hands on activities Palm Springs was an Army Air Force base during World War II It's one of the largest transfer bases in the United States So all this area around us had airplanes on it And then the other thing is we have to remember those folks that are in uniform that have served or are continuing to serve Some of them made the ultimate sacrifice The day's biggest spectacle however won't be on the ground but in the sky as legendary airplanes soar across the Coachella Valley The event's signature valleywide flyover will feature four historic aircraft including the C47 Skytrain two P51 Mustangs and a T28 Trojan We spoke to Managing Director Fred Bell to know more about the history of these historic planes The P51 Mustang was really the aircraft that allowed the United States to get air superiority over the Germans in Europe in World War Two This aircraft actually went to England during the war It did not see combat Fred this is the second P51 Mustang that will fly over Palm Springs skies tomorrow What is the difference between this one and the previous one you just talked about This one is in the colors of Bob Friend He was a Tuskegee Airman during World War II They provided close support for the bombers A lot of the bombers the crews would call them the angels on our wings All right now Fred this C47 aircraft became such a changemaker in World War II Talk to me a little bit about that The aircraft behind us is one of the seven weapons that General Eisenhower said won World War II It was a troop carrier It carried cargo This plane flew in every major engagement in Europe in World War II Now I'm currently inside a T28 Trojan a local airplane out of El Centro that's mainly used to train pilots here at the Palm Springs Air Museum Now you'll be able to see this amazing aircraft fly over the Palm Springs skies during that 4th of July flyover And while each of these aircrafts represent a different chapter of military aviation the event celebrates 250 years of independence and an alliance between the United States and France that dates back to the American Revolution And while the flyover may seal the show visitors can also explore more than a century of aviation history including a 1909 aircraft assembled by the museum's own engineers and Dark Star the hypersonic movie prop from Top Gun Maverick And on holidays like the Fourth of July staff say the Palm Springs Air Museum becomes a place to connect history and community Sort of like a continuation of let's keep up the keep up the history because it is our history in Palm Springs It's not just war history It's it's Palm Springs history Now the event will begin at 2 pm tomorrow right here at the Palm Springs Air Museum and I want to show you this plane behind me Now in that story you saw the engineers and team here at Palm Springs Air Museum assemble this 1909 Bledio 11 plane It is the first military aeroplane to see combat the world speed record for this plane 499 MPH Can you believe that it is crazy how technology has gone from this to what it is now truly one of the planes you'll be able to see at tomorrow's allies in liberty celebration So we hope to see you here reporting live from the Palm Springs Air Museum I'm Alondra Campos back to you in the studio
