The countdown to the 2028 Summer Olympics is officially underway — and a familiar face from the Coachella Valley is helping prepare for the global spotlight. San Clemente will host Olympic surfing at Lower Trestles, one of Southern California’s most iconic surf breaks. Helping get the city ready is San Clemente City Manager Andy Hall, who previously served as Cathedral City’s city manager. The big challenge? Lower Trestles can accommodate about 2,000 Olympic spectators, while regular surfing events can draw 6,000 to 7,000 people. San Clemente is planning viewing parties and other community events so more people can experience the Olympic action. The world is coming to the waves of Southern California — and the Coachella Valley has a familiar connection to it all.
