Social Security Interruption? Former SSA Head Warns of Potential Benefit Disruptions
For over 85 years, the Social Security Administration (SSA) has never missed a payment—but that could soon change, according to former SSA head Martin O’Malley.
In a recent statement, O’Malley warned that cuts to SSA staffing could lead to significant disruptions in processing benefits. While recipients who receive payments electronically are expected to remain unaffected, those who depend on traditional methods—such as mailed checks—may experience delays or interruptions.
"Ultimately, you’re going to see the system collapse and an interruption of benefits," O’Malley cautioned.
He attributes this risk to budget-cutting efforts, which aim to reduce SSA employees who handle claims and payments. Fewer workers mean slower processing times and potential disruptions for millions of Americans relying on these payments.
O’Malley’s advice? “People should start saving their money now.”
As concerns grow over Social Security’s future, financial experts recommend exploring backup income sources and retirement savings options to prepare for potential disruptions.
