Leadership Coachella Valley Inspires Youth at Career Compass Event in Rancho Mirage
Leadership Coachella Valley held its Career Compass event this week at the Rancho Mirage Library and Observatory, bringing together community leaders and young students for an afternoon of career exploration, inspiration, and opportunity.
The goal of the event was to introduce local youth to a broad range of career paths by providing direct interaction with professionals from across the Coachella Valley. Students from area schools, including Boys and Girls Clubs, participated in the event, hearing firsthand stories and advice from individuals working in fields as diverse as law enforcement, education, politics, the arts, and science.
“I’ve learned so much about what is available for us here in the valley,” said attendee Kelly Tweedy of Leadership Coachella Valley. “Our kids should know that too.” Tweedy emphasized that the event was designed to help students uncover paths they may not have known existed and give them a glimpse of what’s possible.
Edmund Esqueda, a detective with the Palm Springs Police Department, spoke with many students during the event. “Some of these 14- and 15-year-olds already know what they want to do,” he said. “It’s exciting to see them already ahead of the curve.”
Eric Ornelas from Sunnylands praised the event as “fantastic,” noting the wide participation and impact on youth throughout the region.
The event was part of Leadership Coachella Valley’s class project for the year and reflects the organization’s commitment to shaping future leaders. For more information about the program or how to get involved, visit leadershipcv.org.
