May 20: Palindrome Day, Quiche Lorraine, and a Pop Quiz on Lawns and Lyrics
Happy Palindrome Day! It’s Tuesday, May 20, 2025—5/20/2025, a date that reads the same forward and backward. NBC Palm Springs kicked things off with the Hashtag Holiday Calendar Pop Quiz, brought to you by Inland Empire Health Plan, celebrating a quirky lineup of commemorative days.
First up: Eliza Doolittle Day, inspired by the character from My Fair Lady. According to lyrics from the musical, May 20 is the day the king promises to honor Eliza, hence the annual nod.
Next, food lovers rejoiced with National Quiche Lorraine Day. This French classic made with eggs, cream, bacon, and Swiss cheese had everyone’s mouths watering. Not to be outdone, it’s also National Be a Millionaire Day—encouraging people to dream big—and National Reduce Your Lawn Day, a call for drought-tolerant landscaping in water-conscious communities.
Today’s Pop Quiz theme? “Lawn.” Viewers were tested on which Clint Eastwood movie featured the famous line, “Get off my lawn.” The answer? Gran Torino. Then came a lyrical brainteaser featuring the Monkees’ 1967 hit Pleasant Valley Sunday, written by Carole King and Jerry Goffin.
From movie quotes to musical throwbacks, it was a fun and informative Wednesday segment. And as always, the team reminded us to laugh, learn, and maybe consider switching out that grass for some rocks and succulents.
