Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Marks Completion of Covalda Apartments in Coachella

The City of Coachella, in partnership with Chelsea Investment Corporation, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony today to celebrate the completion of Covalda Apartments, a new affordable housing community. Located on Cesar Chavez Street, the 108-unit development includes 10 units specifically designed to accommodate residents with disabilities.

Local officials attended the event, highlighting the project’s importance in meeting the community’s housing needs. “In our society today, we make sure that we have accessibility. Having these dedicated units for people with disabilities makes it easier for people to know this is somewhere I can live and where they understand my needs,” one city leader said.

The complex not only offers accessible living spaces but is also conveniently located near transportation, with a SunLine Transit bus stop directly across the street. This combination of housing and transit options ensures greater independence and convenience for residents.

Speakers at the event expressed a desire for a broader range of housing types in the community, including condos and townhomes, to accommodate the diverse preferences of Coachella residents.

Funding for Covalda Apartments was provided by several sources, including the California Department of Housing and Community Development's Infrastructure Grant Program.
