Back Pain Relief Tips: Natural Solutions From Clark’s Nutrition on Wellness Wednesday

Back pain is one of the most common ailments Americans face, with eight out of ten people experiencing it at some point. On this Wellness Wednesday, sponsored by Clark’s Nutrition Natural Foods Market, Starkey Sowers shared natural solutions that may help relieve back pain and support recovery.

“Movement is key,” Sowers said. “Even when you’re in pain, doing what you can—walking, band exercises—helps your body heal.”

Sowers recommends curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, as a powerful anti-inflammatory. While turmeric teas and powders are popular, he notes that liquid extracts offering concentrated curcumin provide a far more effective dose—potentially equivalent to 20 to 30 cups of tea in just one tablespoon.

He also highlighted systemic enzymes, like recovery enzymes, which support inflammation reduction throughout the entire body. “I take them morning and night, especially after heavy lifting,” he said, emphasizing their added benefits for cardiovascular health and digestion.

Sowers also discussed MSM (methylsulfonylmethane), a natural compound with roots in forestry work, where it was discovered to accelerate healing among injured workers. “Three grams twice a day works wonders,” he advised.

To support spinal discs, Sowers suggested Myotone, a classic chiropractic formula aimed at strengthening the back. For external pain relief, he introduced ArthroWell, a topical cream developed by his chiropractor, made with cayenne pepper and other ingredients for natural transdermal pain control.

“Just don’t forget to wash your hands after applying it,” Sowers added with a smile.

From daily movement to targeted supplements and topicals, Sowers emphasized a proactive approach to back health. “Learn what works for your body—and stay consistent,” he said.
