Hashtag Holidays: Pink Flamingos, Runners, and Typewriters Celebrate June 23

Today’s Hashtag Holiday Calendar and Pop Quiz, brought to you by Inland Empire Health Plan, turned up the fun with some colorful celebrations and quirky trivia.

Monday, June 23rd, 2025 is packed with retro charm and bold color. It’s National Pink Flamingo Day, commemorating the iconic plastic lawn ornament designed by artist Don Featherstone in 1957. The flamingo quickly became a staple in front yards—especially in places like Florida.

It’s also National Typewriter Day, celebrating 157 years since the typewriter was patented in 1868. Many of us remember the click-clack days of typing class—and sneaking a glance at the keys despite the teacher’s warnings.

And for the runners out there, it’s National Runners Selfie Day—a perfect excuse to snap a sweaty selfie mid-jog.

And yes, it’s National Pink Day—just a day to celebrate the color pink in all its glory. Our anchor even wore pink on air!

As for today’s Pop Quiz, it was all about pink too:

  1. John Mellencamp’s 1983 hit “Pink Houses” was on the docket. The lyric?
“Well, there’s people and more people... and vacation in the Gulf of Mexico.” (That’s B for the win!)

  2. And for the science-minded: What’s the technical name for pink eye?
Answer: Conjunctivitis (A). Definitely not gingivitis or meningitis!

Thanks for playing along, and we’ll see you next time with more hashtag fun.
