U.S. Airstrikes on Iran May Have Fallen Short of Goals, Early Reports Suggest

Early reports suggest the recent U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s major nuclear sites may not have been as effective as President Donald Trump initially claimed. According to three individuals with direct knowledge of the preliminary assessment, the attacks may have only set back Iran’s nuclear program by three to six months.

The White House pushed back on these reports. Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt stated the media's reporting on the intelligence assessment is inaccurate. A senior White House official added that defense experts are still analyzing the true impact of the operation targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

This early analysis appears to contradict public claims made by both President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who stated that Iran's nuclear capabilities had been “obliterated” by the coordinated strikes.

In a statement released Tuesday, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth maintained that the airstrikes had destroyed Iran’s ability to develop nuclear weapons. However, independent and internal military assessments reportedly paint a more restrained picture of the operation's results.

More details are expected as further evaluations are completed by defense and intelligence agencies.
