Palm Springs Hits 119 as Coachella Valley Faces Extreme Heat Warning

It’s official: Palm Springs hit 119 degrees today—the hottest day of the year so far—while La Quinta reached a scorching 120. The Coachella Valley remains under an Extreme Heat Warning, with temperatures expected to stay dangerously high through Thursday.

For mid-July, the average high is around 108 degrees, making today’s temps well above normal. “We’ve been preparing for a week like this,” said NBC Palm Springs weather staff. “We had a 117 not long ago, but today definitely took it up a notch.”

Thursday’s forecast looks nearly identical, with expected highs ranging from 116 to 120 degrees across the valley. And even though a minor cooldown is anticipated by the weekend, temperatures will remain above 110 through at least Saturday.

The Inland Empire is also experiencing triple-digit temperatures, and a Heat Advisory remains in effect there as well.

Safety Reminders:

  • Stay indoors during peak hours

  • Hydrate frequently

  • Avoid strenuous outdoor activity

  • Check on vulnerable neighbors and pets

With more extreme heat in the forecast, residents are urged to stay alert and take precautions.
