Surf, Smiles, and Community: Palm Springs Surf Club Hosts Weekly Ladies Surf Camp
While city leaders weigh ongoing noise complaints against the Palm Springs Surf Club, the surf community is making the most of the summer wave season. NBC Palm Springs’ Chloe Carlson was live at the club Tuesday morning for another session of the popular Ladies Surf Camp.
Set against the backdrop of calm waves and clear skies, Carlson introduced viewers to several participants in the weekly event, including returning surfer Lola, who praised the experience for its strong community of women. “It was super fun,” she said. “It was nice to have ladies surfing around you because I don't have that many ladies surfing around me where I live.”
Local resident Susan also took part, reminiscing about the site’s past as a water park and expressing her excitement to surf the wave pool for the first time. “I've been here many years, and I've enjoyed the changes,” she said. “I've surfed at the beach, but never here. Today’s a first.”
Surf instructor Matt called the Palm Springs Surf Club “the sickest wave pool” and emphasized the camp's accessibility for both beginners and seasoned surfers.
Also joining the segment was filmmaker John, who announced a September screening of A Marble in the Jar—a film featuring Olympic silver medalist Tatiana Weston-Webb. The movie, centered on female empowerment in surfing, will be shown at the Surf Club as a float-in screening event.
Ladies Surf Camp continues every Tuesday for the next few weeks, inviting women of all skill levels to learn, connect, and catch waves together.
