Palm Desert, CA – With high school football season just around the corner, a tragic shooting outside NFL headquarters has reignited urgent conversations about brain trauma and the long-term safety of the sport.

The shooter, a former Granada Hills High School football player, reportedly cited football-related mental health struggles in a suicide note, requesting that doctors study his brain for signs of CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy).

The incident comes nearly a year after a disturbing scene at a Xavier Prep football game, where a medevac helicopter airlifted a player with a serious head injury, and another player’s helmet cracked from impact later that night.
