Coachella Valley Heatwave Continues but Cooling Trend Emerges

Happy Friday, Coachella Valley! It’s another hot day in the desert, but thankfully not as extreme as what we experienced yesterday. Southern California saw several record-breaking highs, including a scorching 119 degrees in Palm Springs—tying a record set in India for the same temperature.

Today, the mercury is expected to peak around 110 degrees—still above average for this time of year but a welcome drop from yesterday’s brutal heat. This marks the start of a gradual cooling trend, which will continue through the weekend and into next week.

The reason for the slight relief? The center of a ridge of high pressure is shifting south of the region. This means the strongest heat dome that baked Southern California the past two days will move away, easing temperatures a bit. Highs over the weekend are expected to remain in the low 110s to mid-110s, with Saturday’s forecast at 112 degrees.

In addition, a few high clouds and a touch more moisture will push humidity levels up to around 15%, making the air feel a bit muggier than usual for the desert. By the end of the week, forecasts suggest temperatures will finally drop below average—bringing some relief after a prolonged heatwave.

Be sure to stay hydrated and take precautions during the hottest parts of the day. We’ll continue to monitor the weather and bring updates as the pattern evolves. Stay cool, Coachella Valley!
