DOT Launches Updated Air Travel Complaint System
The Department of Transportation has introduced a new online system for processing air travel complaints, replacing technology that had been in use for three decades.
The previous complaint system relied on outdated infrastructure that created delays when airlines and ticket agents needed to access complaint records and coordinate resolutions with passengers. Under the old system, these parties often experienced significant lag times in receiving complaint information.
The updated platform automatically sends real-time notifications to relevant airlines, travel agencies, and other parties when complaints are filed. This immediate alert system is designed to expedite the resolution process between passengers and service providers.
Before filing a complaint through the DOT system, the department advises passengers to first attempt resolving their issues directly with the airline or travel agency involved. The complaint process serves as a secondary option when direct resolution efforts are unsuccessful.
