Cathedral City Council to Choose New District 3 Representative From 12 Candidates

The Cathedral City City Council will meet on Wednesday afternoon to appoint a new District 3 representative, selecting from a pool of 12 candidates who submitted letters of interest for the seat.

The vacancy opened following the death of Councilmember Mark Carnevale on November 16, 2025. After weighing their options at a December 10 meeting, the council voted to fill the seat through appointment rather than a special election. Residents interested in serving had until December 29 to submit their names.

Those who applied are Daniel H. Brumer, Stephen Burchard, Joe Camareno, Jason Clauson, Ava Dupree-Holmes, Teresa Garay, Colby Gregory, Christina Gordon, Sunshine Herrera, Raymond Manriquez, Jennifer Novak, and Alberto Ruiz. All meet the basic requirements: at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen, and a registered voter living in District 3. You can see the full agenda and resumes from the candidates here.

Council members will hear from each candidate and take public comment before making their decision. NBC Palm Springs spoke with Communications Manager for the city, Ryan Hunt, who said that, although plans can change, a choice is expected to be made at Wednesday's meeting.

The special meeting begins at 3 p.m. at the Study Session Room at City Hall, located at 68-700 Avenida Lalo Guerrero. All live meetings can be viewed online as well on YouTube
