Programa “Quédate en México” es implementado nuevamente en la frontera con Tijuana
Este lunes se comenzó a aplicar nuevamente el programa “Quédate en México” en la frontera de Tijuana y San Diego, dicho programa busca que quienes presentaron una solicitud de asilo a Estados Unidos, permanezcan en México hasta su audiencia en una corte de inmigración.
Esta política fue implementada inicialmente por el gobierno de Donald Trump bajo el nombre de “Protocolos de Protección al Migrante” y había sido dejada sin efecto por el gobierno de Biden el verano pasado, pero tuvo el programa tuvo que ser reinstalado luego de que un juez federal lo ordenara, alegando que no fue propiamente dado de baja.
El mandato fue mantenido por una corte de apelaciones, sin embargo, la semana pasada el equipo del presidente Biden mandó una petición a la Suprema Corte para que termine con el programa.

La fundación Unión de las Libertades Civiles Americanas (ACLU por sus siglas en inglés) y que trabaja en los condados de San Diego e Imperial, emitió un comunicado acerca del reinició del mandato en la ciudad, donde invitan al presidente Biden y su equipo a terminarlo de manera permanente.
“Hacemos un llamado al presidente Biden para que mantenga su palabra y tome las medidas necesarias para que su administración reanude con el acceso a quienes buscan asilo en la frontera”, se leía.
“Invitamos a este gobierno a terminar permanentemente con el programa “Quédate en México” y a que rescinda todas las otras políticas que obstruyan las solicitudes de asilo, incluido el título 42, una injusta norma que evita que los migrantes puedan cruzar la frontera, al ser considerados un riesgo de salud pública.
La ACLU y otras organizaciones defensoras de los derechos de los migrantes han alegado que la práctica ha puesto en peligro a quienes solicitan asilo, ya que se han visto obligados a esperar en México por largos periodos de tiempo, mientras sus casos progresan en el sistema judicial de Estados Unidos.
De acuerdo con la ACLU, más de 700,000 migrantes fueron enviados de regreso a México durante la presidencia de Donald Trump.
“La reimplementación y expansión del programa “Quédate en México” en San Diego deberá atender a más solicitanes de asilo por trauma y que han llegado a sufrir violaciones en su proceso a causa del programa, esos daños han sido bien documentados con anterioridad y continuarán a menos de que dicho programa llegue a su fin.

Palm Springs is mourning the loss of beloved entertainer James “Gypsy” Haake, who has died at 94. Haake began his entertainment career at just 19 years old as a Broadway chorus dancer. After retiring from the stage, he returned to performing at 82, becoming the host of Carnival Cabaret at Oscars in downtown Palm Springs. A longtime friend of our station, Haake was a familiar and beloved figure in the Palm Springs entertainment community — and his contributions were recognized with a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars.
