Una orden ejecutiva firmada por el gobernador Gavin Newsom hará que los distritos escolares puedan contratar a empleados temporales para cubrir las bajas de personal ocasionadas por el Covid-19.

“Cualquier día sin previo aviso hemos llegado a tener entre el nueve y el doce por ciento de nuestra planta de maestros enfermos o en aislamiento por probable contagio”, dijo Christine Paik, Jefa de Comunicación del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Poway.

“Definitivamente nunca habíamos visto tantas faltas de maestros y alumnos”, expresó Superintendente del Distrito Escolar de La Mesa-Spring Valley, David Feliciano.

Incluso antes de esta nueva ola de contagios, los distritos escolares ya habían tenido que lidiar con la falta de personal, por lo que maestros sustitutos y profesores retirados estuvieron llenando el vacío dejado por quienes contraían el virus.

“Hay un exdirector muy querido en nuestro distrito, lleva varios años retirado pero ha vuelto para apoyar como director sustituto”, agregó Paik.

La orden ejecutiva del gobernador disminuye los obstáculos estatales que enfrentan los distritos y que pudieran retrasar la contratación de maestros sustitutos calificados, así como también extender el periodo de actividades de quienes ya se encuentran como maestros substitutos.

“Con esta orden emitida por el gobernador será más fácil que podamos tener a un maestro sustituto en nuestras aulas mientras lidiamos con esta la falta de personal”, añadió Paik.

Feliciano afirmó que aproximadamente la mitad de sus maestros sustitutos estaban retirados hasta hace unos meses.

Hasta antes de esta orden ejecutiva, los maestros que reingresaban a la fuerza laboral tenían restricciones sobre su sueldo y los cargos que podían ocupar.

“En realidad nos beneficiará, mientras podamos tener a nuestros maestros retirados colaborando, mejor nos irá. Ellos ya conocen a los niños y a estas escuelas”, dijo Feliciano.

Feliciano y Paik coincidieron en que los mestros sustitutos y retirados son una de las principales razones que aún pueden continuar con las clases presenciales.

“Nuestros maestros, incluidos los sustitutos, y todo el personal de nuestras escuelas son héroes. Están permitiendo que los niños sigan en la escuela, algo que es crítico ahorita”, agregó Feliciano.

Las flexibilidades otorgadas por esta orden ejecutiva del gobernador Gavin Newsom estarán en vigor hasta el 31 de marzo de 2022.

Palm Springs is mourning the loss of beloved entertainer James “Gypsy” Haake, who has died at 94. Haake began his entertainment career at just 19 years old as a Broadway chorus dancer. After retiring from the stage, he returned to performing at 82, becoming the host of Carnival Cabaret at Oscars in downtown Palm Springs.
