Know Before You Go: Coachella Valley Traffic Updates

Navigating the Coachella Valley this week might require some extra planning due to major construction projects and upcoming road closures. In partnership with the CVAG Traffic Management Center, here’s what to expect on the roads. Drivers on Monterey Avenue should anticipate delays tied to ongoing work related to the Cotino project. Crews are busy installing utility lines, including sewer and water, with completion not expected until December. Commuters are encouraged to use alternate routes like Bob Hope Drive to avoid congestion. In La Quinta, paving work continues on Fred Waring Drive. This week, crews are prepping for major slurry seal work slated for after Thanksgiving. Until then, drivers should exercise caution, particularly at night, as lane lines are being temporarily removed. Palm Desert is wrapping up its intersection rewiring project. The final phase is underway at the Foley Lane and Kasbah Way intersection, where traffic signals will be temporarily dark. Stop signs will be in place—drivers are reminded to treat dark signals as a stop. Additionally, Ironman 2024 will bring significant closures on December 8th, especially on Washington Street and surrounding areas. Detours are planned via El Dorado Drive and Fred Waring Drive. Drivers are advised to slow down, plan ahead, and drive safely during the holiday season to avoid unnecessary delays.

Palm Springs is mourning the loss of beloved entertainer James “Gypsy” Haake, who has died at 94. Haake began his entertainment career at just 19 years old as a Broadway chorus dancer. After retiring from the stage, he returned to performing at 82, becoming the host of Carnival Cabaret at Oscars in downtown Palm Springs. A longtime friend of our station, Haake was a familiar and beloved figure in the Palm Springs entertainment community — and his contributions were recognized with a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars. His career spanned more than seven decades, proving that the spotlight never truly left him. ❤️ Rest in peace, James “Gypsy” Haake.
