Indio Pow Wow Returns to Fantasy Springs with Free Weekend Celebration

The annual Indio Pow Wow returns to Fantasy Springs Resort Casino this weekend, offering a vibrant celebration of Native American culture. Hosted by the Cabazon Band of Mission Indians, the event is free and open to the public, running from Friday, December 1, through Sunday, December 3. The Powwow features traditional Native American food, intricate dancing, and Kia bird songs, highlighting the rich heritage of the Cabazon Band and other tribes. One event organizer explained the unique merging of social dances and Powwow traditions: “Cabazon was the first tribe to blend these two celebrations. Our traditions feature rattles, known as queer people's songs and dances, while Powwow songs are performed with drums. This fusion brings communities together for a shared celebration of life.” Attendees will experience dance competitions showcasing stunning regalia, hear ancient songs, and enjoy authentic dishes like fry bread and Indian tacos. The Powwow is an opportunity to learn about the history, traditions, and stories of the Coachella Valley’s Native American tribes. The event’s schedule includes grand entry ceremonies, traditional singing, and artisan vendors offering handcrafted goods. For those interested in exploring the rich history of local tribes, you can also watch the special “Tribes of the Coachella Valley” to gain deeper insight into the area’s cultural legacy. You can find that special here on our website. Don’t miss this immersive cultural experience at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino this weekend.
