Agua Caliente Entertainment Report: Two Oscar Contenders Hit Theaters
This weekend’s Agua Caliente Entertainment Report highlights two films with Oscar potential: The Return and The Order, reviewed by Manny the Movie Guy.
The Return
Ralph Fiennes takes on the role of King Odysseus in The Return, a modern interpretation of Homer’s Odyssey. Directed by Uberto Pasolini, this adaptation eschews mythical elements to focus on family and the human cost of war. Odysseus returns to Ithaca after 20 years to reunite with his wife, Penelope, played by Juliette Binoche, and their son, portrayed by Charlie Plummer. The film’s grounded narrative and intense performances, particularly from Fiennes and Binoche, create an emotionally rich experience. Receiving 3.5 out of 4 kisses from Manny, The Return is recommended for those who appreciate slow-burn, character-driven storytelling.
The Order
The Order is a gripping crime thriller based on true events, with Jude Law starring as an FBI agent on the trail of a white supremacist group led by Nicholas Hoult’s chilling portrayal of Bob Matthews. Directed by Justin Fell, the film explores the psychology of violence with a pulse-pounding pace and contemporary relevance. Manny praises its thought-provoking themes and engaging performances, awarding it a perfect 4 out of 4 kisses, calling it one of the best films of the year.
Manny’s Take
Both films deliver memorable experiences—one through introspective drama and the other with intense, real-world thrills. Don’t miss these must-see movies in theaters now.
