Search Underway for Gunman Who Killed United Healthcare CEO in NYC Ingesting
Authorities in New York City are intensifying their search for the gunman who killed Brian Thompson, CEO of United Healthcare, in a premeditated and targeted attack early Wednesday morning in midtown Manhattan. The shooting, described as chilling and methodical, took place as Thompson was en route to an investors conference. Law enforcement officials revealed that the gunman, clad in a hoodie, ski mask, and a gray backpack, had been waiting for Thompson and opened fire from behind, hitting him multiple times in his back and calf. A senior law enforcement source stated that this was not a random act but rather a carefully planned assault. Surveillance footage shared by the New York Times showed the suspect near the scene about 10 minutes before the incident, and images from a Starbucks were also released. The gunman’s proficiency with firearms was evident, as he cleared a malfunction when the gun jammed. Despite officers arriving four minutes after the attack, the shooter fled on a bike, heading toward Central Park. Police are now seeking information from the public to help locate him. Thompson, a resident of Minnesota, was described by United Health Group as a cherished leader and friend. His wife, Colette, told NBC News that Thompson had been receiving threats but did not alter his routine. She called him a "wonderful person with a big heart" who lived life fully. The investigation continues as authorities seek leads and pieces of evidence that could bring the shooter to justice.
