Firebirds: Post Game
Meyers' hat trick leads the Firebirds to victory
A tale of two games on Thursday night inside Acrisure Arena. A slow start, where the Firebirds only had two shots on goal, and a mere 30 seconds of ice time in the offensive zone.
It all changed when the team came back out for the second period. A more physical and fast-paced team took the ice and battled the rest of the way.
Down 3-1 at one point in the second period, Max McCormick was able to find the back of the net with a nice move to the side of the goaltender to bury the puck home. Good for a power play goal.
Ben Meyers would join in on the fun next. The first of Meyers' three goals came in the second period on the power play with six minutes left in the middle period.
Fast-forward to the final period, it was Meyers again, whose second goal of the night came on the power play again with less than five minutes remaining in the game.
The game-winner came off of the stick of Lleyton Roed, who placed the puck under the arm of the Stars' netminder. The burst of speed was noticeable on the goal as Roed punched it into another gear.
Firebirds' goaltender Nikke Kokko left the game in the second period with an apparent injury and was replaced by Ales Stezka.
The Firebirds will hit the road for two games in San Jose with the Barracuda on Saturday and Sunday before returning home next Thursday, December 12.
