Palm Springs Chick-fil-A Project Faces Traffic and LGBTQ+ Concerns Ahead of Planning Commission Review
A proposed Chick-fil-A in Palm Springs is stirring up controversy once again as it heads to the city’s Planning Commission for review this Wednesday. The project has been on hold for months, facing scrutiny over potential traffic issues and the company’s history of donations to anti-LGBTQ+ organizations.
Developers are seeking approval for a conditional use permit to demolish an existing building and redevelop the site at the intersection of Ramon Road and Gene Autry Trail. The proposal includes a nearly 6,000-square-foot structure with both indoor and outdoor seating and a three-lane drive-through.
While city staff have expressed support for the project, residents and activists remain divided. Many cite concerns over increased traffic congestion in an already busy area, while others are raising questions about whether Chick-fil-A’s controversial past aligns with Palm Springs' inclusive values.
Chick-fil-A has previously faced backlash for its donations to organizations opposing LGBTQ+ rights, though the company has since stated it no longer contributes to such groups. Nonetheless, the issue continues to spark heated debates, particularly in a city known for its vibrant LGBTQ+ community.
The Planning Commission’s meeting on Wednesday will provide an opportunity for public comment as well as a detailed discussion on how the project might address these concerns.
