Desert Hot Springs Police Step Up Traffic Enforcement Amid Recent Accidents
Police Increase Traffic Enforcement in Desert Hot Springs After Fatal Accidents
Desert Hot Springs is ramping up traffic enforcement following a string of accidents, including two fatal collisions, to improve road safety. Police Chief Jim Henson announced the measures after a hit-and-run accident that claimed two lives. The incident followed another fatal crash the previous Saturday and three additional non-fatal collisions in the area over the past two weeks.
In response, officers have conducted over 100 traffic stops in recent days, issuing numerous citations. Chief Henson stated that increased enforcement will continue indefinitely, urging drivers to obey traffic laws to help prevent future tragedies.
"We are taking proactive steps to ensure safety on our roads," Henson said in a message to the community.
The city is also addressing traffic safety concerns with a nearly $10 million infrastructure improvement project on Palm Drive, a known accident hotspot. Upgrades will include new traffic signals, street lighting, and gutters to improve road conditions and visibility.
Authorities hope these combined efforts will reduce collisions and protect residents. In the meantime, police remind the public that traffic safety starts with responsible driving behavior.
