Congressman Raul Ruiz Pushes Drone Safety Bill Amid Rising Reports in the Valley

Suspicious drone sightings continue to raise concerns across the valley, prompting local and federal authorities to take action. Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz has pointed to this week’s incidents as further proof of the need for his proposed Protecting Outdoor Concerts Act. The legislation would authorize the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to restrict both drones and manned aircraft over large-scale events, prioritizing public safety. “We must ensure the safety of our communities and public gatherings,” said Dr. Ruiz, urging residents to report suspicious drone activity to the FBI. His office continues to monitor the situation while pushing for tighter regulations. On a national level, federal agencies, including the FBI, FAA, Homeland Security, and the Department of Defense, issued a joint statement reassuring the public that most drone sightings stem from hobbyists or misidentified aircraft, not security threats. Despite 42 million annual drone flights across the U.S., authorities maintain that safety risks remain low. While drones are crucial in industries like emergency response, media, and agriculture, their growing presence in unauthorized spaces has raised questions about regulatory gaps. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is among those calling for stronger state-level authority to manage drone incursions.
