Terry Ray of The Bent Theater Talks 2nd Anniversary, Upcoming Shows, and Holiday Extravaganza
Terry Ray, co-founder and managing director of Palm Springs' Bent Theater, recently joined Desert Entertainment to celebrate the theater's second anniversary and share exciting news about their upcoming shows. The Bent, the only LGBTQ+ theater in the Coachella Valley and Riverside County, has made a significant impact in just two years, offering a unique space for diverse performances.
The theater’s journey began after the Desert Rose Theater closed, leaving a gap in the local arts scene. With a modest start—launching with just $4.95 in the bank—Ray and co-founder Steve Rosenbaum were determined to bring theater back to the community. Now, the theater is thriving, with major milestones like hosting Academy Award-nominated actress Cathy Moriarty in the play I'll Eat You Last, a production by renowned writer John Logan.
The Bent is currently showing Skippy and Bitsy's All-Star Christmas TV Extravaganza, a fun and original holiday show set in 1969. This wild, festive ride has been a hit, and Ray hopes it will become a seasonal tradition. With two performances left on December 18 and 19, the show promises surprises and laughs. Looking ahead, Ray is excited for Perfect Arrangement, a politically relevant play about a true story from the 1950s, set to run in February 2024.
