Record-Breaking December Heat Hits Coachella Valley Ahead of Christmas

Record-Breaking December Heat Sweeps Through Coachella Valley The Coachella Valley is basking in unseasonable warmth, with temperatures breaking records for the second day in a row. Palm Springs reached a sweltering 85°F on Thursday, far exceeding the seasonal norm of 68°F. Thermal also shattered its previous record set in 1999, climbing to 84°F. Big Bear made history as well, hitting 67°F and surpassing a record that stood for 60 years. Clear skies and a light Santa Ana wind flow contributed to the dry, warm conditions. Today’s forecast predicts another potential record, with Palm Springs expected to reach 82°F. Overnight lows will remain mild, with most of the Coachella Valley experiencing temperatures in the 40s. Heading into the weekend, slight changes are expected. High clouds will filter the sunshine, but temperatures will remain around 10 degrees above average, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. By Christmas Eve, a cold front will sweep through the region, bringing cooler temperatures but little chance of rain. While the mountains might see light sprinkles, the Coachella Valley is expected to stay dry. Residents can look forward to a comfortable Christmas Day, with sunny skies and highs near 75°F, perfect for outdoor holiday celebrations.
