Warm December Weather Continues with Highs Above Normal in the Coachella Valley
The Coachella Valley is enjoying warm weather this December, with temperatures expected to remain well above normal throughout the week. As of today, highs are projected to reach 71-81 degrees, with Palm Springs hitting 80 degrees, and other areas like Palm Desert and Indio reaching the mid-70s. This is 10 degrees higher than the usual temperatures for late December, with overnight lows also remaining above normal in the 50s. This warmth follows several record-setting days last week, with Palm Springs reaching 81 degrees on Saturday, just one degree shy of a record high. Yesterday, temperatures were slightly cooler, but still above the seasonal average, with 75 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. Despite the pleasant conditions, an air quality alert has been issued for the west end of the valley, including the San Gorgonio Pass and the Inland Empire, due to high pollution levels. Additionally, a wood-burning ban is in effect through tonight, and it may be extended depending on air quality levels. Looking ahead, a fast-moving front is expected to bring gusty winds and cooler temperatures to the region starting tomorrow. Winds will begin to pick up in the afternoon, with a wind advisory in effect from 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve through midnight. While temperatures will remain above normal in the mid-70s, no significant rainfall is expected in the valley, though scattered showers may affect the mountains to the west. A brief cooldown is expected at the end of the week, with temperatures nearing normal levels on Friday before a warm-up returns next weekend.
