Palm Desert Launches Autism Center Certification Grant Program for Local Businesses
In a major step toward promoting inclusivity, the City of Palm Desert has become the second city in the United States to receive Autism Center certification through the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards. This certification recognizes the city’s commitment to providing a welcoming and supportive environment for individuals with autism and their families.
But Palm Desert isn’t stopping there. To extend this support to the local business community, the city is now offering a grant program designed to help businesses gain the same Autism Center certification. The program will provide $2500 reimbursements to eligible businesses to cover the costs of the training required for the certification.
The training program is designed to educate employees on how to better serve individuals with autism, fostering a more inclusive environment for both customers and employees. This initiative not only aims to create a better experience for people on the autism spectrum but also encourages businesses to be proactive in supporting diverse communities.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
