Contraction Training Leg Day

In today’s Weekend Workout segment, fitness expert David Lyons takes us through an effective leg day workout that utilizes contraction training to enhance muscle strength and mass. Contraction training directly stimulates muscle fibers, leading to greater muscle activation and growth. Lyons demonstrates two key exercises: the resistance band squat and the kickback.

For the squat, Kendra, a featured participant, stands on the resistance band with her legs positioned for balance. She lowers into a squat, holding the position while squeezing her glutes, quads, and hamstrings for four seconds before quickly rising and repeating the process. This controlled contraction maximizes muscle engagement during the movement, helping to build strength and tone the legs.

The second exercise is the kickback, which isolates the hamstrings and glutes. Using a leg strap attached to a door, Kendra performs the kickback by extending her leg behind her and holding the contraction for four seconds, allowing her muscles to fully activate.

The workout ends with a calf stretch, performed on a step to improve flexibility and reduce muscle tension. Lyons underscores the importance of controlled contraction during these movements to fully engage and strengthen muscle fibers. Whether you're aiming to build muscle or enhance flexibility, contraction training is a powerful method to add to your workout routine.
