Resentencing Hearing for Menendez Brothers Delayed Again Due to California Wildfires
The resentencing hearing for Erik and Lyle Menendez has been postponed for a second time due to the ongoing impact of the California wildfires. The brothers, who were convicted in 1989 for the brutal murder of their parents, were initially scheduled for a resentencing hearing at the end of January. However, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman confirmed that the hearing will now take place in late March, citing disruptions caused by the wildfires that have affected case preparations.
This delay follows a previous postponement in 2023 and further complicates the legal journey for the Menendez brothers. The case gained renewed attention in October, when Hochman’s predecessor, George Gascón, recommended that the brothers be resentenced after new evidence surfaced suggesting that they had been victims of long-term abuse by their father. This recommendation followed a thorough review of the case, and Hochman has since vowed to conduct his own review of the situation, ensuring that all aspects of the case are reconsidered.
The Menendez brothers have been serving life sentences without parole since their conviction for the 1989 killings. The resentencing hearing, which will address the possibility of parole, is now expected to occur in late March. The decision to delay the hearing reflects the significant challenges posed by the ongoing wildfires in California, underscoring the unpredictable nature of disaster recovery.

Palm Springs is mourning the loss of beloved entertainer James “Gypsy” Haake, who has died at 94. Haake began his entertainment career at just 19 years old as a Broadway chorus dancer.
