Rancho Mirage DUI Checkpoint Nets Arrest
A DUI checkpoint in Rancho Mirage resulted in one driver being arrested for suspected DUI, 17 citations for unlicensed driving, and one for driving with a suspended license. The checkpoint was conducted on Highway 111 and Library Way from Friday evening to early Saturday morning. Authorities selected the location based on data showing frequent impaired-driving crashes in the area. First-time DUI offenders face severe penalties, including fines averaging $13,500 and possible license suspension. Officials emphasized the importance of these checkpoints in promoting road safety and reducing accidents caused by impaired drivers.

Palm Springs firefighters responded Thursday to a report of a person struck by lightning in the Chino Canyon area. The person was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Firefighters also responded to a palm tree fire in Chino Canyon that officials say was caused by an apparent lightning strike.
