CalFresh Recipients Food Replacement Due to Recent Power Outages
CalFresh recipients in Riverside County who have lost food due to recent power shut-offs can apply for replacement benefits until February 5. The power outages, which were implemented by utility companies to prevent wildfires, disrupted power for thousands of residents, including nearly 26,000 people receiving CalFresh benefits in the region. These recipients are now eligible for food replacement assistance to help them recover from the loss of perishable items that spoiled during the outages.
In response to these challenges, the California Department of Social Services has extended an option for residents to apply for food replacements through the official "Benefits Cal Dot Com" website. Applications for replacement benefits must be submitted by February 5 to ensure eligibility.
In addition to food replacements, CalFresh recipients can also use their benefits to purchase hot meals from participating restaurants until February 8. This is an effort to support residents who may not have access to the means to prepare food following the outages. To apply for replacement benefits or learn more about the hot meal program, residents are encouraged to visit the official CalFresh website.
