Imperial Irrigation District Approves Power Rate Update, Bills to Increase by $29

IID Rate Update: Monthly Bills Set to Rise $29 Starting February 1st

On Tuesday, the Imperial Irrigation District (IID) approved a power rate update intended to stabilize billing and address aging infrastructure needs. Starting February 1st, customers can expect an increase of about $29 per month on their utility bills.

According to IID officials, the decision was driven by the need to reduce volatility in summer bills and to address the under-collection of over $100 million annually. For the first time in 30 years, IID has made significant changes to its base rate, including the addition of the Energy Cost Adjustment (ECA) adder. This adjustment will raise the kilowatt-hour rate from 11.69 to 19.76.

“We need to make important investments to ensure we continue delivering low-cost power to our customers,” IID officials explained.

While officials emphasized the importance of the update for long-term infrastructure improvements, many Coachella Valley residents expressed frustration. “It’s a bummer because prices are going up everywhere,” said one resident, noting that rising utility costs are adding strain to households already impacted by inflation.

To help ease the financial burden, IID has increased public benefits funding by $10 million and offers financial assistance programs for eligible customers. Details about these programs are available at NBCPalmSprings.com.

This change marks a pivotal moment for IID, as officials work to balance infrastructure needs with customer affordability. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
