Palm Springs Works on Improving Public Restroom Access for Shoppers
A growing concern in downtown Palm Springs has sparked a conversation about the need for better restroom accessibility for shoppers. With businesses like Bungalow 17, owned by Chris, facing a challenge after Starbucks changed its bathroom policy, many visitors are unsure where to go when nature calls.
Chris shared that her small shop lacks a public restroom, and for years, she would direct customers to nearby Starbucks, which offered restrooms to all patrons. However, since Starbucks implemented new restrictions, the public restroom options have become even more limited. This issue is not only frustrating for shoppers but also for businesses that want to provide a pleasant experience for their customers.
City Council Member Jeffrey Bernstein, who also owns a business downtown, responded to the issue. He acknowledged the problem and confirmed that there are public restrooms around the city, including locations near the Kempton and El Corso, as well as the downtown park. However, Bernstein noted that better signage is needed to guide people to these facilities.
“There’s a real need to make sure that people know where these restrooms are,” said Bernstein. “We’re committed to improving signage and ensuring a better experience for everyone walking around downtown.”
Palm Springs officials are taking action to improve restroom access, making the city more user-friendly for residents and visitors alike. With better signage and communication, downtown Palm Springs aims to become a more accessible, walkable destination for all.
